Neighborhood House Fire

Bruno, my favorite Pit Bull, is living with us after having been displaced by a house fire. Tuesday night our neighbor was home alone when her house caught on fire and burnt to the ground. Laura happened to be feeding the dogs, heard her screams for help, and called 911. Every engine from three communities responded. I had been deciding whether to post about it, and decided to do it for a few reasons. Maybe you'll be more fire safety-conscious after seeing this, you may check on your insurance information to be sure you're covered properly, and hopefully you'll appreciate the every day blessings of life without a big fire to interrupt it. We had been playing happily with Devin on Monday, not a care in the world, admiring his new Nikes. Now, we're all in shock at what Tuesday night's fire has done to our tranquil lives. All the humans were fine. One beloved dog was killed. Every material possession was lost. Insurance will replace the house. People have already clothed the family. It was unspeakably terrifying.

Can You Believe This?

I'll post more of the saga later. We've now moved it up to 3 patrol cars...

New Improved Computer

23 inch moniter. Wow. I never knew what I was missing.

I got the Dell from Wal Mart. It does have a TB of memory or whatever, and a bigger screen and all kinds of features that the one for the same price online didn't have.
I'll have lots of typos for a while as I adjust to the brand spankin' new keyboard.

My Bouquet

I thought this was beautiful and cheerful, so here it is on my blog.

A nine year old Amish boy arranged this! My favorite aspect of this bouquet is the aromatic weed that sticks up in the center, looking a bit like a daddy longlegger.

AMAZING SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

THESE REALLY WORK!! I checked this out on Snopes and it’s for real!

AMAZING SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES:

1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH WOMEN ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK..

3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

6. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

DAILY THOUGHT:

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Abstract Christmas Post

Here's our Christmas dinner photo.
The family with whom we shared Christmas doesn't put photos of themselves on the web, so I'll share my profound and artsy picture, taken in darkness.
After too much coffee, apparently.

The Pumpkin

Thanks to a wealthy donor, the girls got to carve pumpkins this year.
I wasn't going to pay $11 for a squash we weren't going to eat!
At the store where the pumpkins were so high, the owner told the girls that if they could grow the pumpkins, he would buy from them next year. They now have great plans for a pumpkin patch.
(Thanks, Uncle Joe!)

5 Hour Energy Drink + Sunny Day = Cleaning Frenzy

I'm usually pretty frugal, but this little bottle, which goes for $3 at a convenience store, is my downfall.
If you want to have energy like a woman in her 20s, try it.
With the bright weather, and the 2 ounces of canned youth, I should be able to shake off the doldrums and get the house ready for Thanksgiving company.

You Just Might be a Redneck

Better late than never. Right?
Here are the two brothers, enjoying a beautiful evening together after a hard day's work.

Fun, Fun, Fun

Today dawned perfectly crisp and sunny, just the right weather for the day before the autumnal equinox.
The girls awoke still giddy with excitement from their day of outdoor sports yesterday.
Here they are on the 4 wheeler.
And here are two more youngsters who also liked having fun near the same wildlife camera that snapped photos of my own young.
