This is the man who shaped my life.
The man who rubbed my back and gave me paregoric when I was little and my tummy hurt.
The man who held my hand while he walked me down the street in Mt. Lebanon to get an Isaly's ice cream cone.
The man who imparted to me his unusual outlook on life!
In spite of the profuse tears, snot, and lump in my throat, I'm singing my dad's song today.
He could whistle it just like the soundtrack.
Dad finished his battle with cancer this morning and is at peace now.
Till we meet again, Daddy!
Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.
Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.
Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.
It makes me cry to see that picture of him.
ReplyDeleteI miss Grandfather so much! I bet he's happy with Grandma Brush! I'll miss you, Grandfather!

Mollie, this post made me cry even though I didn't know your dad. I'm so sorry for you. I still have both my parents but I can guess how hard it will be when I lose one. I love this picture of your dad with the umbrella. Was there a story behind it?
ReplyDeleteMost of the story is I lost all my photos of him when my hard drive crashed, so I stole this from his sister on FB.
DeleteThis is outside his house in Plano, when he was first diagnosed. He was always careful about the sun. And it was lung cancer that got him, although he never smoked.
He was such a part of our lives that it is hard to lose him. And he was absolutely an original, so there's no hope of ever finding a replacement for him in this world!
