We got in later than anticipated last night, and I went straight down to the barn to milk. When I turned on the light, I saw a blacksnake curled up by the feed bag. Yuck. But, undaunted, I started milking Tuscany. The snake decided to get up on the stanchion, so I was bonking him back down with a rake handle, finally got the better of him, and he zoomed out the open door. When he left, I saw another blacksnake outside! Double yuck. Then I saw a weird animalish thing hanging from the eaves of the barn when I went to check on a goat, so I sent Big Dan to investigate. Guess what it was? Yep, a third snake. We know it was a third because the other two also slithered around while Big Dan was down there. In the top photo is the upper snake, and below is a snake in the barn, eating an egg. I was going to sprinkle moth balls around, but heard that they don't work. We thought of buying Snake Away, but I decided to just be careful of snakes instead. I have the daughters doing the barn chores tonight. Can't be more careful than that.
